Southall Environmental was established in 2008 to bring an independent and unbiased voice to natural resource management in the Northwest and beyond. Southall Environmental was founded on “strong science, deep client education, continual project involvement, and providing high quality and environmentally sound solutions”.
Mr. Southall is an experienced project manager and for the past 16 years has consulted on a wide variety of water resource and sustainability projects throughout the Pacific Northwest. As an Environmental Scientist, Nick has a diverse skill set and is experienced both in the technical aspects of project design and as a program manager. His professional experience includes freshwater, tidal, and wetland restoration, basin planning, ecosystem services, and rural sustainability. He has worked closely with tribal groups, municipalities, non-profit organizations, and private landowners.
In the natural resources realm, Nick possesses a range of skills and understanding seldom found in specialist disciplines. His career began evaluating water quality issues related to stormwater in the UK. Following work in Hampshire’s New Forest to evaluate indicators of sustainability, he moved to Virginia in 1999 to work on wetland mitigation projects throughout the Chesapeake Bay tributaries. After transplanting west to Oregon’s beautiful and dynamic Columbia River Gorge, Nick spent many years with Inter-fluve, a leading stream restoration firm, learning the industry and honing his craft. Having gained further skills working as an independant consultant, and in project mangement role with a restoration design build firm, Nick moved into a senior management role with The Freshwater Trust, one of the Northwest's innovative non-profits. In addition to overseeing the organization's habitat restoration projects, Nick was responsible for coordinating the flow restoration program, monitoring department, and landowner relations teams.
Understanding the geographic, ecological, and social drivers within our industry is critical, and these career experiences allow Nick to thoughtfully contribute at both the macro and micro scales. He enjoys working with motivated clients and colleagues to meet common goals and to drive environmental gain. Please contact Southall Environmental for further information.
